Welcome to 5 Shakespeare

Welcome to Year 5 Shakespeare, I am your class teacher Miss Murrum. We also have the amazing Mrs Goncalves supporting the children with their learning. The adults in Shakespeare class work hard to ensure all the children are safe and happy at school. This year, we have amazing trips planned and learning opportunities that are fun, practical and engaging so that the children enjoy all their lessons and learn lots along the way! This half term, Year 5 are travelling back in time to explore and discover the fascinating world of the Ancient Egyptians. In English and Guided Reading, we are enjoying Secrets of a Sun King and have recently written our own instructional texts on how to build a pharaoh. Our class novel is Wonder, which is helping us explore important themes such as inclusion, kindness, friendship and bravery. In Maths, we are developing our understanding of place value, multiplication, addition and subtraction, while applying these skills to problem-solving activities. In Science, we are investigating the properties of materials and learning why different materials are suitable for different purposes. In PE, we are currently developing our gymnastics skills on Monday afternoons, while on Wednesday afternoons we enjoy our swimming sessions. It is a busy and exciting term, and we are looking forward to seeing Year 5 continue to learn, grow and challenge themselves!

Please continue to read every day. Evidence shows that reading for just 15 minutes a day greatly influences children's progress as they continue through school. 

Daily reading, TT rockstars and spelling shed. Speech cup continues every Wednesday. Please practice with your child at home prior to the day they share with their class.
