  • Year 6 virtual poet visit

    Thu 29 Apr 2021

Year 6 had a virtual visit from the St Albans poet in residence, Dan Simpson. He helped us create witty, interesting and creative poetry all about ourselves and then about  St Albans cathedral. These poems about the cathedral focused on personification and characterisation of the abbey. It led to some very interesting descriptions. We won't be seeing the cathedral the same way again!

This week Cosmin, Frankie, Gina, and Manav represented Oxhey Wood at the  Year 5 Maths Challenge. Held virtually this year, this annual challenge allows our Year 5 mathematicians to test their calculation, reasoning and estimation skills against children from other schools in the county. The Oxhey Wood team performed superbly in the heat and we are eagerly awaiting news as to whether we will progress to the next round.

  • Remembering Prince Philip

    Fri 16 Apr 2021

In our classes this week we have talked about the recent death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Today we came together in our virtual assembly to think about the values he held dear and the lessons we can learn from him. We talked about his role as consort to the monarch and about his place in British history. We dressed in red, white and blue today, the colours of the Union Jack flag ahead of the funeral which will take place tomorrow.
